Korean Language Courses (Summer Semester 2026)

Korean Language Courses at King Sejong Institute Tübingen

The Korean language courses offered by the King Sejong Institute Tübingen are open to anyone interested in learning Korean. This includes not only students of the University of Tübingen, but also non-students and external participants. Students may receive a BQ credit certificate.

Korean Language Courses (Summer Semester 2026)

In the summer semester 2026, five regular Sejong Korean language courses (세종한국어 1–5) will be offered:

  • Basic Course 1A

  • Beginner Course 1B

  • Courses for independent language use: 2A, 2B, and 3A

Participation in all courses is generally free of charge. Participants are only required to cover the cost of course materials and textbooks (€35). Students may obtain a BQ certificate worth 4 ECTS credits.

Payment & Course Period

You can pay the fee and collect the textbook at the King Sejong Institute Tübingen office:

Additional Courses (Fees Apply)

In addition to the regular language courses, the following courses will also be offered (fees apply):

  1. Hangul Calligraphy and Traditional Korean Handicrafts (한글 캘리그라피)

  2. Korean Conversation (한국어회화)

  3. Introduction to Korean Cuisine (한국요리입문)

Registration

Registration is conducted online via Google Forms:
Application period: March 9, 2026 (09:00) – March 31, 2026
Please provide the following information when registering:

  • Full name

  • Address

  • Date of birth

  • Course title

All courses except 1A follow a first come, first served principle. Participants for course 1A will be selected based on their answers in the application form.

Placement Test (Deadline: March 30, 2026)
  1. The online placement test can only be taken once after logging in:
    https://nuri.iksi.or.kr/front/page/participation/onlineLevelTest/main.do

  2. Applicants for courses 1B, 2A, and 2B should select “Elementary”.
    Applicants for course 3A should select “Intermediate”.

  3. You must scan your test results and send them by March 29, 2026 to:

  4. The test consists of listening and reading sections.

Applicants for courses 1B, 2A, 2B, and 3A who have not previously taken a course at the Sejong Institute must complete the placement test.

Selection & Capacity

Participants will be notified by email on April 3, 2026.

  • Maximum participants per class: 23

  • Minimum participants required: 7

Course Descriptions

Korean Language Courses

1A (Basic Course)
Recommended for beginners learning Korean for the first time. 1A-1 and 1A-2 have identical content.

1B (Beginner Course)
Recommended for those who completed 1A or have basic knowledge (simple texts and dialogues).

2A / 2B (Independent Use)
Recommended for those who completed 1B or have basic communicative ability (simple conversations, daily tasks, basic grammar).

3A (Competent Use)
Recommended for learners with more advanced skills (discussing social/abstract topics, relatively fluent communication, solid grammar knowledge).

Cultural Courses & Practice Course

1. Hangul Calligraphy and Traditional Korean Handicrafts (한글 캘리그라피)
Participants learn traditional calligraphy techniques while engaging with K-culture content. The goal is to deepen understanding of Hangul.

2. Korean Conversation (한국어회화)
Focuses on improving speaking and communication skills through conversation-based lessons.

3. Introduction to Korean Cuisine (한국요리입문)
Experience Korean cuisine by preparing dishes such as kimbap, bibimbap, pajeon, and braised tofu.
