Portrait

Hwanhee Kim is a doctoral student and research associate in Korean Studies at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. Trained in both sociology and education, he brings a dual background in field research and classroom teaching to his work. His research explores how young people in South Korea form political subjectivities under conditions of social precarity, particularly focusing on occupation movements and gender conflict within schools. Before entering academia, he worked for over a decade as a public elementary school teacher and was active in civic movements addressing urban dispossession and educational inequality. He holds two M.A. degrees—in Sociology from Sungkonghoe University and in Korean Language Education from Korea National University of Education, where he received the Outstanding Thesis Award. He is also the founder of Inmuyeon, a humanities research collective active since 2017.
