Teach@Tübingen Fellowship

The Teach@Tübingen fellowship is a good opportunity for international early career scholars to familiarize themselves with research and teaching at a German university. It aims to expand English-language instruction at the University of Tübingen. For the fellows, the program offers the opportunity to gain teaching experience, to establish international networks, and to broaden their individual research horizons. 

Target Group

  • Postdocs (up to 4 years after completing their doctorate), preferably from strategically important partner universities of the University of Tübingen
  • Focus on researchers whose academic career has mainly taken place outside Germany
  • Doctorate not completed in Germany
  • Have been working abroad for the last two years prior to application

Doctoral candidates:

  • Applications are possible if the doctorate is completed before the start of the fellowship
  • Proof of submission and planned defense is required at least 3 months before the start of the fellowship
  • The doctoral degree certificate must be submitted immediately upon receipt

Excluded from application:

  • Persons who currently or in the past
  • were funded by projects of the University of Tübingen or
  • had an employment contract with the University of Tübingen

Preferred:

  • Applicants from partner universities of the University of Tübingen (according to the official list), but not a prerequisite

Requirements

  • Affiliation with a host chair
  • Presence in Tübingen during the fellowship
  • Teaching: 2–6 hours per week per semester, in English or a foreign language, open to the public, broad target group, no replacement of basic courses, compulsory attendance
  • Participation in Science Compass, fellow workshop, semester opening, and certificate ceremony is mandatory
  • Teaching quality is central to the selection process

Scope of Funding

1. Scholarship

  • Postdocs: €1,853/month

2. Teaching assignments

  • 2–6 hours per week per semester
  • Remuneration: €50/hour (for at least 5 students)
  • Payment at the end of the semester

3. Travel expense reimbursement

  • Up to €1,500 for travel to and from Tübingen
  • Reimbursable: economy flight, 2nd class train, public transport
  • No relocation costs or travel expenses for family members

4. Child allowance

  • 1st child: €400/month
  • Each additional child: €100/month

Every half year

Deadlines

May 1st to June 20th for stays starting in April of the following year

October 1st to November 20th for stays starting in October of the following year
