Microforms

Under the term microforms we include microfilms, microfiches and slides.

Mikrofilms

Holdings: Numerous newspapers and periodicals, but also works worthy of protection from the old stock, are available as microfilm (35mm roll films with photographs in 35mm format). Often there is no longer a paper edition of the work, or one cannot be issued for use due to its poor state of preservation.

Reference: Works on microfilm, like books and periodicals, can be searched for in the catalog plus under their author/editor or title. The signatures of microfilms generally bear the letter F as an identifier. However, if it is a filming of a printed work from our holdings, then the film bears the signature of the printed work with a "tape tag" [...]-AF (=Arbeitsfilm). You can get an overview of our holdings of all microfilms (sorted by serial number) by starting the following truncated search in the catalog in the "call number" field: 1 F*.

Microfiches

Reference: Works on microfiche, such as books and periodicals, can be searched in the catalog plus under their author/editor or title. The call number of microfiches bear the letter G as an identifier. You can get an overview of our holdings of all works on microfiche (sorted by serial number) by starting the following truncated search in the catalog in the "call number" field: 1 G* or 10 G*.

Usability of the microforms

The majority of the holdings are in the closed stacks and must be ordered via Catalog plus. These works can be borrowed. The daily newspapers, which are freely accessible as microfilm in the Ammerbau, cannot be borrowed.

Several workstations are available in the Ammerbau for reading the microforms:
