What is CIVIS?

CIVIS - "A European Civic University" - is an alliance of 9 leading research higher education institutions across Europe. With more than 384,000 students, the aim is to boost international student exchanges and European integration, and to jointly develop answers to upcoming challenges.

The vision of CIVIS is to establish study programs at Bachelor, Master and PhD level that are recognized Europe-wide , an increase in student mobility to 50% and, in the long term, a separate legal form with a governance structure that will create a European university with different campuses.

The following focus areas are of primary importance:

  • Climate, Environment, Energy
  • Health
  • Society, Culture, Heritage
  • Digital and Technological Transformations
  • Cities, Territories, Mobilities

You can find more information by following this link, as well as on the CIVIS website.

Who is CIVIS?

The "European Universities" initiative, which was launched by the EU in 2017, aims to strengthen strategic partnerships between higher education institutions in the EU and promote their development. Against this background, the association "A European Civic University" - or CIVIS - was founded in 2019.

This association of nine leading universities in Europe makes CIVIS an innovative flagship project, whereby, in addition to cutting-edge research, European integration is to be deepened through shared learning opportunities, complementary research facilities and diverse study programs.

How to Develop a Qualitative Research Design (Jun.-Prof. Dr. Ursula Offenberger)

This course aims at giving you an introduction to Qualitative Research by supporting you in developing your own (little) research project. We start with getting to know basic principles of qualitative research and learn about methodology and epistemology. Based on this, we ask what kind of research questions suit a qualitative research project. We then learn about data gathering and sampling and apply the learnings to your projects. We discuss your evolving projects and shed light on principles of qualitative data analysis, including information on computer assisted qualitative data analysis (CAQDAS) as offered with, e.g., Maxqda and Atlas.ti.

Course dates: March 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th from 9am to 12pm
