Max Altenhofen is a PhD candidate in Korean Studies at the University of Tübingen. He received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Heidelberg in History and the double master’s degree MAKES from the University of Tübingen and Seoul National University. He was awarded the Best Thesis Award of Korean Studies at the GSIS, Seoul National University for his master’s thesis entitled >>서독 정부의 대한민국에 대한 기술원조 - 1960/70년대의 직업교육 분야를 중심으로<< (The West German Government’s Technical Aid for South Korea - Focusing on the Field of Vocational Education during the 1960/70s). In the winter semester of 2019/20 he was AKS Graduate Fellow and in the winter semester 2021/22 AKS Hanmun Fellow at the Academy of Korean Studies in Seongnam, South Korea. His research draws on the topic of his master’s thesis, analysing the characteristics of the West German development assistance to South Korea during the Cold War era in different fields such as education, agriculture & forestry and industry & infrastructure. He is interested in the history of science and technology, environmental history and global history.
