Abstract: Hunminjungeum/Hangeul is the only script created specifically to suit the language spoken, with known records of its creator (King Sejong the Great), its period of creation (December 1443), and its date of promulgation (September 1446)—and above all, with the principles of its creation clearly documented in the book entitled. Hunminjungeum was created according to the principles of YinYang and the Five Elements (Eumyang Ohaeng). Yin-Yang and the Five Elements is a traditional Eastern worldview framework that seeks to explain all phenomena and transformations in the universe, nature, and human society. It combines 'YinYang, ' the fundamental energetic dynamics of the universe, and the 'Five Elements, ' which represent the five properties or elements produced through the circulation of that energy. How were these principles applied to the creation of Hangeul?
