Institute of Media Studies - Former Students

Jasmin Faller:

"Media Studies at Tübingen is something very special. Theory and practice blend to create an exciting entity that is offered in interesting seminars and lectures. The staff of the Institute of Media Studies encourage and support students in every respect, always offering food for thought to try and bring out the best in everyone."

Philipp Jauch:

"Motivation is the key to success. The teaching here is on the very highest level, and yet we always receive individual support - that's pretty strong motivation. The teaching is based on co-operation and trust, and that enables us to achieve our ambitious goals together. And that's what makes Media Studies at Tübingen unique."

Julia Klebitz:

"To me, Media Studies at Tübingen is above all the perfect combination of science and cross-media practical teaching. Media-scientific models and theories aren't just put across in face-on classes, but are investigated by the students themselves in practical applications, then taken on board and further developed. We looked at the history, theory and aesthetics of the media, and examined advertising and communication models. We also worked in small groups to produce e.g. radio reports, or went through interview coaching. This combination of topics is a great starting point for our professional lives."

Elena Pelzer:

"At first, I was most looking forward to the practical part of Media Studies at Tübingen, whether the writing course or the opportunity to produce our own radio programmes. But after some time, I realised that the theoretical part isn't boring or dreary, because it actively encouraged us to take our TVs apart rather than throw them out of the window. Media Studies at Tübingen University is more than a course. It's a breeding ground for talent."

Henrik K. Rang:

"I chose Media Studies at Tübingen University because every single lecture is an invitation from the lecturers to share in their current research. They link scientific theory and empirically backed-up results from media and communication science with practical knowledge. And that's something we can use in our jobs, be they in journalism, advertising or PR. By interweaving science and practice I have been able to sharpen my job profile while still a student."

Jana Marie Seifried:

"In my Master's course I learnt how applied media studies work. The lecturers encourage me to do my research independently, and I was also able to gain practical experience in print, TV, radio and online - which has enabled me to select individual focuses. To me, Media Studies at Tübingen is above all about competent lecturers, intensive support and the delightful charm of a university city with centuries of tradition."

Kati Trinkner:

"Studying here at Tübingen is incredibly varied. As well as learning about media-scientific principles and theories, we also learn about writing for journalism, producing radio programmes and working creatively. The support of our professors enables us to look beyond the rim of our tiny student world - and having fabulous experiences in the 'big' world."
