Vortrag von Dr. Akın Bakioğlu am 27.11.2024

Am 27. November um 16h c.t. hält Dr. Akın Bakioğlu im Rahmen unseres Institutskolloquiums einen Vortrag zum Thema

The Making of the Turkish Working Class in Stuttgart: The Role of Space

Abstract:

This presentation is based on the project I am currently conducting at the University of Tübingen, titled "Working Experiences of Workers from Turkey in Germany: Exclusion, Intra-Class Position, Organizing (The Case of Stuttgart)." The presentation, titled "The Making of the Working Class from Turkey in Stuttgart: The Role of Space," examines the impact of space on the working class and how this influence shapes workers' class consciousness and social mobility. Stuttgart, with its significant immigrant population, industrial structure, and socio-economic dynamics, provides an ideal research setting for this type of analysis.

The presentation will delve into how urban and workplace environments shape the experiences of workers from Turkey, and how these spaces determine their social and economic positions. The daily interactions within neighborhoods and workplaces will be analyzed for their influence on class consciousness, emphasizing the role of space in the structure of class dynamics. This perspective highlights not only the economic and social challenges faced by migrant workers but also how spatial factors shape these challenges.

The presentation aims to provide an original perspective for both academic audiences and those interested in social issues, helping them understand the dynamics of the migrant working class from Turkey. By discussing the critical role of space in class consciousness and organization, the presentation will offer a broader social analysis through the lens of the workers' living and working environments.
