My research aims at producing a new narrative of the cultural history of mediaeval Armenia by focusing on the Armenian translation culture and its contexts of production/transmission. For the first time, the Armenian translations are studied not only from a philological context, but also in their social, economical, and literary aspects. By enlarging the traditional geographical scope of inquiry to neglected areas, the resulting book will show Armenia in its right role as a centre of entanglement of cultures and language traditions (Greek, Georgian, Syriac, Arabic, ...) as well as review the weight of its cultural debt to Byzantium.
