Call for Applications: 2024 AKS Hanmun Fellowship(Advanced Course) (Kopie 1)

The Academy of Korean Studies (AKS) is pleased to announce the “AKS Hanmun (Classical Chinese) Fellowship.” As an important part of our mission is to nurture researchers, who will contribute to the development and globalization of Korean studies, the academy has organized the “2024 AKS Hanmun (Classical Chinese) Fellowship” for international scholars in Korean studies. Those who are interested in the following programs held by the AKS, which is the global hub sharing Korean studies with the world, are very welcome to apply.
1. Programs : Lectures, recitations, researches, and on-site tours (conducted in Korean)

2. Program Period :
  - 10th(Advanced Course) : September 2 – December 19, 2024

3. Venue : The Academy of Korean Studies

4. Eligibility

  - Undergraduates students, master's and doctoral degree students majoring in Korean Studies at overseas university(including candidates of master's or doctoral degrees)

  - Korean nationals and graduates are ineligible for this program.

※ Advanced Korean language skills are required, as the program will be conducted in Korean.

※ Must have completed a basic Hanmun course to take the Advanced Course

5. Required Documents

1) For All Applicants:
  - Application form (download the attached file)
  - Certificate of enrollment (or completion)
  - One letter of reference
   ※ Written by the applicant's academic adviser as to why the applicant needs knowledge of Chinese characters.
  - Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) score report (if you have taken)

2) Additional Documents for Applicants of the Advanced Course (Choose one):

- A copy of transcript or certificate that can prove the applicant’s completion of a Hanmun course at his/her university (or from other programs)

OR
  - AKS Hanmun Fellowship Certificate of Completion
  ※ All documents should be written in Korean or English. If not, attach a Korean or English translation of documents that are notarized.

6. Application Period : Monday, March 18 – Sunday, April 14, 2024

  - Round-trip airfare (economy class) and support for living expenses (750,000 KRW per month)
   - Accommodations (guesthouse located at the Academy of Korea Studies compound)

   - Accident Insurance

11. Others
  - Submit a study report until fifteen days before the end of the fellowship period.
  - Support will not be provided to applicants who receive funds from other sources.

Thema: “Auf den Spuren der Koreanistik in Deutschland” (im Rahmen der Lehrveranstaltung zu „Geschichte der beiden Korea“ bei Herrn Prof. Lee)

Wer: Teilnahme für alle Interessierten! Begrenzte Personenzahl 28: wer sich zuerst verbindlich anmeldet, ist dabei!

Unkostenbeitrag pro Student*in: 45€

Programm: Besuch des Klosters St. Ottilien, das dortige Missionsmuseum, zum Grab von Mirok Lee in Gräfelfing und in München Besichtigung historischer koreanischer Relikte. Ein detailliertes Programm folgt.

Lernziel: Gegenseitiger Informationsaustausch der Teilnehmenden z.B. zum Kloster und das Missionsmuseum in Bezug auf Korea, über Leben und Werk von Mirok Li etc.

Graduate Summer School of the CIVIS-KF e-school Consortium

General Information

What is CIVIS-KF e-school consortium?

The CIVIS-KF e-school consortium is an association of five European Korean Studies Departments of Civis Alliance to provide mutual online learning opportunities. The main goal is to diversify teaching and increase in-depth exchange between students and researchers of European Korean studies. The program is supported by the Korea Foundation.

What is CIVIS-KF Graduate Summer School?

The Graduate Summer School includes lectures by professors of Korean Studies and researchers and presentations of master thesis and dissertation topics by students from the participating universities of the CIVIS-KF e-School consortium.
This is a unique opportunity to exchange ideas with other European Korean Studies students and to receive feedback from renowned professors and researchers from various fields of research.
The 2024 Graduate Summer School of the CIVIS-KF e-school Consortium will take place at the Aix-Marseille University, May 20 - 25, 2024. Transportation, accommodation and meals will be provided for participants.

Up to five students are chosen from each partner university.

•  Sapienza University of Rome (Italy, Prof. Dr. Antonetta Bruno)

•  Stockholm University (Sweden, Prof. Dr. Sonja Häussler)

Information about application

Who can apply?:

•  MA/PhD students from the Korean Studies department of the five partner universities.

• Preference is given to MA/PhD students who already have a planned master's thesis or dissertation topic. BA students applying for a master’s program in Korean Studies are also encouraged to apply.

Application Process:

Applications with relevant documents (letter of application, a short proposal of the MA/dissertation topics (1 page), tabular curriculum vitae, transcript of the previously completed certificates or BA certificate for students from the 1st semester in MA program) should be sent by e-mail as PDF by 31.01.2024 to: you-jae.leespam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de (CC: thomas.eichertspam prevention@uni-tuebingen.de)

Successful candidates will be notified of the results and should keep in touch with the designated TAs for instructions on further procedures.

The East Asian Studies Area of the University of Malaga (Spain) is announcing a call for papers for the International Conference “Marginality, inclusion, and gender in Korea: past and present” on March 12th, 13th of 2024.

This conference aims to consider the interrelated processes of discrimination and integration of social groups inside Korean society from a broad methodological and thematic perspective. This call for papers encourages contributions dealing with the analysis of the cultural and institutional process of social discrimination in Korea, as well as political movements and institutional transformations directed to the integration of social groups previously discriminated against.
