 Research Project
Provisory title: Figurations of Ecoprecarity: Alliances, Kinship and Multispecies Solidarities in Francophone Ecodystopias.
My research explores how contemporary francophone literature imagines environmental crises in contexts shaped by colonial histories, extractivism, racism, and social inequality. I am particularly interested in the ways literary texts reimagine how humans and nonhumans might live, survive, resist and bond together in worlds marked by ecological and political disruption.
My project focuses on Francophone Ecocene fiction from Sub-Saharan Africa, the Caribbean, and the Indian Ocean. These narratives depict environmental collapse, ecological disasters, and post-apocalyptic futures. While dystopian fiction is often associated with violence, fear, and the struggle for individual survival, my research examines the forms of solidarity, cooperation, and interdependence that emerge in the aftermath of catastrophe.
Drawing on ecocriticism, postcolonial studies, and feminist/queer humanities, I investigate the relationships forged between humans and nonhuman beings—including animals, plants, technologies, and ecosystems—and the new forms of collective life these encounters make possible.
How do these narratives represent more than ecological catastrophe? How do they offer imaginative spaces for thinking beyond crisis, envisioning alternative modes of inhabiting the world grounded in care, relationality, and multispecies coexistence?
