Admission is subject to a competitive selection procedure that includes individual interviews with faculty members. Shortlisted candidates from overseas will be interviewed in a video conference.

Application deadline: 15 May.
Interviews with shortlisted applicants are scheduled for early June.
Letters of admission will be sent out by late June.
Our programs start at the beginning of October.

Admission to one of our Dual Degree Programs requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Economics with a grade better then 2.5, preferably a degree that amounts to 180 ECTS credits (e. g. a three-year Bachelor). European Economics applicants are expected to have solid intermediate knowledge in at least two of the following fields: Micro- and Macroeconomics, Foreign Trade and Trade Policy, Quantitative Methods, Finance and Investment Theory.

The program is free of tuition fees for all EU residents. The state of Baden-Württemberg has introduced fees for international non-EU students and second-degree students. For background information and for fee exemption options, please refer to this link.

We accept the following certificates as proof of English language skills:

  • TOEFL ibt: 80 or
  • TOEFL pbt: 550 or
  • IELTS: 6.0 (overall band) or
  • Cambridge: CAE, CPE or BEC Higher or
  • TOEIC: 700 or
  • UniCert III Certificate or
  • German Abitur including at least 6 (G8) or 7 (G9) years of English or
  • Bachelor degree in English/America Studies or
  • University degree obtained in the UK, Ireland, USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

Italian

Knowledge of German or Italian is not formally required to complete the program. However, students are strongly encouraged to take Italian language courses before going abroad.

The Pavia Tübingen Dual Degree Program provides students with a unique study experience. Designed as a two-year program to be completed at both of the partnering universities, featuring a broad range of courses and granting two degrees, this Master program perfectly prepares graduates for an international career.
This double degree program is conducted in cooperation with the Università degli studi di Pavia and provides students with a unique study experience. Designed as a two-year program to be completed in equal shares at both universities, featuring a broad range of courses and granting two degrees, this Master program endows students with the skills and capacities necessary to compete in the European economic world. With one study year in Pavia, Italy, and one study year in Tübingen, Germany, students experience two cultures, two campus lives, two academic practices. Graduates can look forward to excellent career perspectives in various sectors. At the end of their studies they are granted two Master degrees: the Laurea Magistrale degree and the Master of Science degree. Thus, graduates have a wide range of career options in international companies or institutions in the public sector. Due to the international focus of the program, graduates are able to get into different working procedures in different countries efficiently and adopt beneficial practices being used in other cultures.

Students of this program are full students at both universities. In general, students may choose either to start their Master at the Università degli Studi di Pavia or at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen. To complete their studies, they are obligated to obtain a total of 120 ECTS credits, 60 ECTS credits at each of the two universities.

Graduates of the M.Sc. in European Economics are well-equipped to either pursue an academic career or an ambitious professional career. The double degree enjoys an outstanding international reputation and gives you a competitive edge on the job market. You will acquire up-to-date scientific knowledge that is in high demand for a broad range of professional careers. Graduates may aim for a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or careers in business and finance as well as administrative positions in the public sector and international institutions. The M.Sc. in European Economics offers a Ph.D. track which is a fast track to a doctoral degree in our Doctoral Program in Economics (DPE).
The Ph.D. track requires 18 ECTS credits from courses explicitly marked as Ph.D.-oriented. These courses take students to the frontier of academic research. Moreover, Ph.D. track students need to write a high-quality Master thesis that can serve as a starting point for their Ph.D. thesis.
