Objectives

Social media cannot be understood as separated from our “real lives”, platforms such as Twitter, Instagram or TikTok function as spaces for self-presentation, knowledge transfer and the exchange of ideas – as well as conflicts and quarrels. This workshop provides an introduction to personal as well as institutional science communication through social media from a rhetorical perspective.

Content

When it comes to communicating your own – or your institution’s – research successfully and purposefully through social media, what does it really take? Awareness of one’s own perspective and that of one’s counterparts, sure. Having guidelines for one’s own communication is important as well. And of course, playfulness comes in handy: knowing your way around trends and thinking about visuality from the very beginning.

Methods

The workshop will provide very short theoretical inputs and combine them with practival group exercises as well as time for personal reflection.

The participants are provided with the necessary steps to develop and subsequently implement a personal communication strategy for social media. This is helped through (peer) feedback and coaching, creative exercises and self reflection questionnaires.
