| Duration of stay: | January 7 to February 6, 2027 |
Zih-Lun Huang is a PhD candidate in the Department of Geography and the Environment at Syracuse University. His research examines temporary migration, labor, and urban space, focusing on Taiwanese migrant workers in the global online gambling industry. Drawing on multisited fieldwork and digital ethnography, he shows how workers’ precarious, time-limited lives produce what he theorizes as temporary digital enclaves and recursive linguistic enclosure. Before turning to the Philippines, he studied land redevelopment and displacement in Taichung City, Taiwan. He has published in journals such as Population, Space and Place, Asia-Pacific Research Forum, Journal of Geographical Science, Changhua Review, and City and Planning. Zih-Lun also holds a Ph.D. from National Taiwan University, and He was a Fulbright Visiting Student Researcher at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, University of California, Berkeley (2022-2023).
