Doshisha EU Campus European Studies Program

The Doshisha EU Campus European Studies Program is a tailor-made program offered by Doshisha University, one of the oldest and most respected universities in Japan, located in Kyoto, in cooperation with University of Tübingen's "Tübingen International & European Studies" (T-IES) program.

The aim of the program is to provide Doshisha undergraduate students a 5-month study abroad experience at the University of Tübingen and to complement and enrich their course of study with seminars focusing on Europe and the European Union. Courses will be taught by Doshisha University faculty and the University of Tübingen faculty. All courses are taught in English.

Welcome to one of the most beautiful university towns in southern Germany.

Tübingen is a very lively university town with 91,000 inhabitants, 28,000 of them students. The picturesque town center features charming narrow streets and small houses from the Middle Ages. Its historic charm and attractive position on the Neckar River offer a high quality of life whether your are studying, working, or taking a break. Being so close to nature, and surrounded by forest and hills makes Tübingen very special.

Located at the heart of Europe

Located in Baden-Württemberg, a southern German region with strong European traditions, Tübingen is close to Strasbourg, France, seat of the European Parliament, and equally close to Frankfurt, seat of the European Central Bank. The Stuttgart airport nearby serves the most international destinations, putting Tübingen just a few hours away from cities in Europe like Paris, London or Prague.

Close to Stuttgart - a high-tech region

Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg, can be reached in only 30 minutes by train. With over 5 million inhabitants, the Stuttgart Metropolitan Region is one of the biggest in Germany. Stuttgart lies in a valley and it only takes an hour to the Black Forest. Home to companies such as Bosch, Daimler and Porsche, it has been a center of technological innovation for over a century. Stuttgart has very good train connections, putting it just a few hours away from Munich, Berlin and Hamburg.

How to get to Tübingen

Arrival by plane

Destination airport: Stuttgart

  • Follow the signs for the central bus station (see map).
  • Take the bus number 828 to Tübingen.
  • Get off at Tübingen main station (last stop).
  • The trip lasts 1 hour and costs about 6 Euros.
  • Bus tickets can be purchased on the bus.
  • Timetable bus number 828.

Destination airport: Frankfurt/ Main

  • Follow the signs for the train station.
  • Buy a train ticket to Tübingen in the Travel Center (about 3 hours / 70 Euros).
  • There is no direct connection to Tübingen. You must change trains depending on your connection.
  • Get off at Tübingen main station.

Destination airport: Munich

  • Follow the signs for the train station.
  • Take the S-Bahn S1 or S8 to Munich train station (about 45 minutes).
  • Buy a train ticket to Tübingen in the Travel Center (about 4 hours / 60 Euros).
  • There is no direct connection to Tübingen. You must change trains depending on your connection.

Arrival by train

For train connections to Tübingen main station ("Hauptbahnhof") please visit the website of the German railway company "Deutsche Bahn". Tickets can be purchased at the Travel Center ("Reisezentrum") or at a ticket machine.

The Tübingen International & European Studies Program does not cover any other costs of the participants, such as travel bookings, visa fees etc. If the Tübingen International & European Studies Program has to cancel a course or an excursion for any reason beyond its control, it will not be held liable.

The Tübingen International & European Studies Program (T-IES) and its organizers and teachers shall not be held accountable for any damage to personal property or any injuries suffered during the program. Nor shall the T-IES Program be held accountable for any damage caused by participants to other persons or property. The participant agrees to the storage and use of personal data for internal organization of the application. Personal data storage protection is governed by Federal German Data Protection Act. Within the organization of study trips participant’s personal data will be forwarded to make travel reservations as well as to institutions which require a registration for a visit (e.g. European Parliament in Strasbourg). The participant can demand the deletion of her/his personal data for the future at any time and without giving reasons.
