Ian Rowen is a Visiting Associate at Academia Sinica’s Institute of Sociology and PhD Candidate in Geography at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has written about regional politics, social movements, and tourism for The Journal of Asian Studies, Annals of Tourism Research, the BBC, The Guardian, and Thinking Taiwan, among others. His PhD dissertation research, funded by the US National Science Foundation, the Fulbright Program, and the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, has focused on the political geography of tourism mobilities between China and Taiwan.
