Dr. Dennis Lu-Chung Weng is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Sam Houston State University and a Senior Non-Resident Research Fellow at the New Lines Institute. He is also the Founding Director of the Asia Pacific Peace Research Institute (APPRI). Dr. Weng earned his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Dallas and has previously held faculty positions at Wesleyan University, SUNY Cortland, and the University of Texas at Dallas. In addition, he currently serves as an International Research Fellow for Democracy Studies at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and at the Center for Southeast Asia Studies at the National Chengchi University in Taiwan.
Dr. Weng’s research spans comparative politics, international relations, democracy, and foreign policy, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of domestic political behavior, international politics, and security issues. His regional focus centers on the United States and the Asia-Pacific. Dr. Weng has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, contributing significantly to the field. He is also the author of The Myth of War in the Taiwan Strait and Decoding Washington D.C. (published in Chinese), works that provide critical insights into geopolitical conflicts and practical political strategies.
Beyond academia, Dr. Weng is an active political commentator on American and Asian politics. His analysis, featured in print, radio, and television, reaches both American and international audiences. He offers expert commentary on international politics, particularly U.S.-China-Taiwan relations, as well as on elections and political behavior in the U.S. and across Asian nations.
