Making a German dish (Kässpätzle)
by Tshepo Kelebile Kelepile

On our second day in Tübingen, we were given a task as a group to make a German dish called Kässpätzle. At first, I was excited to make this dish and to also taste it. And then when I found out that it was a Southern German specialty, I began to wonder if we would be able to deliver since no one from the group had ever made a German dish. However, we were all excited to take on this challenge.

We were then divided into small groups, and our tasks in these groups included: setting up the tables, making a fruit salad, making the Spätzle, cutting the onions, washing the dishes and cleaning up afterwards. There were 5 people making the Spätzle, but we all wanted to help because we were fascinated by the idea of making a Spätzle from scratch.

It's amazing how all the small groups within our group all worked together to complete this task, and everyone was doing their best to make sure that they delivered. When one group was done, they went on to help others with what was left to be done. Our small groups ensured that we achieve our main goal which was making the dish, and everyone was very excited committed to the task at hand.

And we did it! I'm proud to say that our Kässpätzle was pleasing to the palate. The smile on Barbara, Ann-Katrin and Suna's face confirmed that indeed our dish was a success. My host mother even shared some of the Kässpätzle that we brought home, with her brother and they loved it. We all enjoyed the dish, it was delicious.

An unknown author once said "teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success" and I believe this was evident in this task.
