As part of its strategy for excellence, the University of Tübingen has set itself the goal of expanding its social engagement. To achieve this goal, the Public Engagement Hub (PE Hub) was founded in 2024, consisting of staff from Public Relations Department, the Research Division and the Center for Media Competence. This hub brings together expertise in strategy, practice, and communication research to firmly anchor public engagement in the university's profile.
The Center for Media Competence (ZFM) contributes to format development, media production, and communication strategy, making it an important player in implementing the goals of the University of Tübingen's Excellence Strategy. In addition, the ZFM heads the student-run Public Engagement editorial team.
The PE Hub brings the vision of an open, socially engaged university to life. The PE Hub:
develops strategies for society sucessfully engaging with science,
creates spaces for dialogue between science and society,
supports researchers in co-creatively generating new knowledge with citizens,
strengthens cultural change in academia.
Public engagement goes beyond traditional science communication: instead of merely informing, public engagement focuses on dialogue, participation, and joint solutions – so that everyone involved benefits. The PE-Hub aims to reinforce trust between science and society.
