The Guild joins the International Coalition for science, research and innovation in Ukraine

Commitment to strengthen the contribution of universities rebuild Ukraine

The Guild has joined the International Coalition for Science, Research and Innovation in Ukraine. Launched during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Rome in July 2025, the Coalition brings together a broad community of stakeholders committed to supporting Ukraine’s immediate needs and the long-term recovery of its research and innovation landscape. The Guild is a network comprising 22 leading research-intensive universities from across Europe, including the University of Tübingen. The partners aim to engage with policy makers, enhance public debate and collaborate with private and public institutions to solve global problems.

Through its membership in the Coalition, The Guild expresses its commitment to strengthen the contribution of universities to widespread efforts to rebuild Ukraine, contributing to the Coalition's shared goals to:

  • raise awareness of the critical role of research and innovation in Ukraine's reconstruction and advocacy efforts
  • assist in the reconstruction and modernisation of Ukraine’s science and research infrastructure
  • facilitate the mobility and integration of Ukrainian researchers during and after the war to enable them to continue their scientific work
  • promote technology transfer to enhance Ukraine’s innovation ecosystem
  • support Ukraine’s long-term integration into the EU and the international research community

“In joining the Coalition, we express our commitment to strengthening research excellence across the European continent, for the benefit of our societies, our welfare, and our cohesiveness,” says The Guild Secretary-General Jan Palmowski. “In the reconstruction of Ukraine, universities have a key part to play.”

The Guild is committed to contributing to the high-level steering committee. With its members the network also looks forward to engaging at the Coalition’s technical-level meetings to foster collaboration and share current and future initiatives. The Coalition initiative was launched by the Italian Ministry of University and Research, the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, UNESCO and the European Commission by signing the Rome Declaration of Intent for Science, Research and Innovation.
