The ZFM is closely affiliated with the Chair of Audiovisual Media, Film, and Television at the Institute of Media Studies. The team of the Centre for Media Competence (ZFM) is dedicated to science communication, public engagement, media research and practical science-related media work inside and outside the university, especially in the fields of video, audio, social media and livestreaming. With strategic consulting, its own research lab and its editorial departments, courses, equipment rentals and studio infrastructure, it supports the research and teaching of all subjects and faculties and accompanies media productions on a technical, conceptual and editorial level. The ZFM trains media designers in visual and audio production, promotes the employability of students and operates as a commercial entity.
