The ‘Grüne Werkstatt’ is an initiative of the Botanical Garden providing educational programmes to schools and other groups, offering botanical and ecological themed tours and events, providing hands on experience in a fun way.

The main objective of the Grüne Werkstatt is to familiarise children and teenagers with the local and more remote natural habitats on earth, teaching them about ecological connections and to sharpen their environmental awareness. In this way the Grüne Werkstatt can make an important contribution to education in the field of sustainable development.

The Grüne Werkstatt provides:
- Educational workshops (curriculum based, e.g. biology, geography), e.g. "Research trip to the tropical rainforest"

- Understanding ecological and global contexts through experiments

- Experience the diversity of plants with all senses

- Educationally trained and skilled staff.
