Research Project
This research project aims to deepen the understanding of how nonviolent resistance is enacted in the Global South. The Minga Indígena in Colombia can illustrate this idea of resistance due to the wide repertoire of nonviolent claims and practices that they performed during the National Strike in Colombia (2019-2021). Thus, I acknowledge a strong relationship between indigenous people and the concept of territory, which is at the core of social mobilization in the country and addresses other ontologies. For that, I will analyse the following elements critically. First, how nonviolence is enacted in contexts of precarity and violence. Second, the many understandings of the concept of territory and its manifestations through the body. Third, how both concepts articulate nonviolent actions against precarity and violence. Whether the territory is represented as a body or the body as a territory, both categories reflect a political place with tensions, emotions, and therefore resistance against the existential threats Indigenous People face.
