On May 18, staff member Jacqueline Bellon will host a workshop titled “Personal Writing and Academic Identity” at the Schader Foundation in Darmstadt as part of the series “Human Writing in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” The workshop will include a presentation on the challenges of academic identity and integrity when writing with and without LLMs or other generative and research-related AI tools.
The workshop will focus on real-world examples—including a long list of retracted AI-generated articles and structural issues within the academic system— followed by exercises from the project on “AI Tools in Higher Education,” including the evaluation of two term papers synthetically generated using different tools such as StudyTexter and Claude based on a list of criteria, to then ask the question of how we as researchers actually want to write ourselves:
Is a personal writing approach necessary for academic identity? Are there subject-specific differences?
