New Study Published in Journal of Human Evolution Uncovers Human-like Grasping Patterns in Early Hominin Fossils

We are pleased to announce the publication of a new open-access study in the Journal of Human Evolution, led by Jana Kunze and colleagues. This research provides compelling evidence of human-like habitual grasping patterns in the hands of certain—but not all—early fossil hominins.

The study, titled "Humanlike manual activities in Australopithecus”, is co-authored by our Center’s Principal Investigator, Prof. Dr. Katerina Harvati; Dr. Gerhard Hotz, Curator of Anthropology at the Natural History Museum of Basel and researcher at the Integrative Prehistory and Archaeological Science, University of Basel; and our Junior Research Group Leader, Dr. Fotios Alexandros Karakostis.

The research team extends their gratitude to all contributors and collaborators who supported this work. Congratulations to all authors on this remarkable achievement!
