Am 24. und 25. September 2015 findet im Hörsaal "Klassische Archäologie" im Schloss Hohentübingen das internationale Symposium "Threat and Order, Existence and Power" statt. Veranstalter sind die SFB-Mitglieder Boris Nieswand, Jan Hinrichsen, Gabriele Alex und Reinhard Johler.

Die Veranstaltung zielt auf zwei sich gegenseitig bedingende Aspekte: Über die Zugänge „Macht“ und "Existenz“ will sie zum einen die komplexen Beziehungen zwischen sozialen Ordnungen und Situationen von Bedrohung beleuchten. Zum anderen sollen Situationen der Bedrohung verstanden werden als Momente, an denen sowohl die soziale Dimension menschlicher Existenz wie auch die existentielle Dimension von Sozietät sich offenbart und problematisiert wird.

The International Symposium “Threat and Order, Existence and Power” will take place at Schloss Hohentübingen (Lecture Hall "Klassische Archäologie") on Thursday, September 24 and Friday, September 25. The workshop will be hosted by Boris Nieswand, Jan Hinrichsen, Gabriele Alex, and Reinhard Johler.

The symposium will explore discourses and experiences of threat, which play an important role in processes of emergence and disappearance of social orders. In this workshop existence and power are considered as two basic entry points to approach these dynamics and to develop a more differentiated understanding of the complex relationship between social orders and situations of threat. Simultaneously, the inquiry into the concept of threat enables to examine the interplay of human existence and sociality; it illustrates how the highly contingent and vulnerable nature of human existence articulates with specific historical conditions. As much as situations of threat demonstrate how existential themes and affect interfere with the social order, they exhibit how they are shaped and manipulated through existing power structures. In this sense, threat elucidates both the existential dimension of social order and the social dimension of existence.
