Career Paths

The following overview offers guidance and provides information on career opportunities within academia as well as on the nonacademic job market. The Graduate Academy also offers services such as individual counselling and numerous qualification opportunities.

Scientific Career

A career in science offers a wide range of opportunities for young researchers. In addition to a professorship and the intermediate stages on the way there, responsible activities in research projects and teaching can be taken on. Particular challenges in the research field are the often fixed-term employment contracts and the fierce competition. However, these challenges can be met with distinctive competencies that can be acquired across different qualification levels.

Career Paths outside of Academia

In addition to an academic career, the job market offers numerous opportunities to pursue research interests, to apply them in practice or to test them in new contexts. The areas of industry and business as well as the public sector offer particularly attractive positions. There are also many options in areas that are becoming increasingly professional, such as science management. Finally, there is the possibility of combining the facets of different professions in a new occupational profile by setting up a business.
