Faculty Mobility Program

Overview:

The state-to-state higher education partnership between Oregon and Baden-Württemberg was established in 1968. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and Arts’ Faculty Mobility Grant program is intended to help seed research collaborations between faculty, strengthen relationships, and expand partnership activity between the two states.

Eligibility:

The grant is open to academic faculty from the participating universities in Baden-Württemberg and in Oregon. Graduate students and postdocs are not eligible.

Funding Amount:

Grants cover the cost of roundtrip airfare between Baden-Württemberg and Oregon, up to 1,350 EUR and provide a daily stipend of 150 EUR for up to 7 days. Arrival and departure each count as a half day. Funding must be processed and disbursed in the 2027 calendar year. Travel must be completed by December 31, 2027.

A complete application will include:

The application formwith project description (1-3 pages), to include:
- Intended activities and future goals;
- Rationale for choice of collaborator(s) and/or host institution(s);
- Proposed activities to promote the student exchange program.
Letter of invitation from the host collaborator or institution(s). The letter should explain the goals of the visit and a brief overview of what types of activities will take place. The letter of invitation is an important part of the application package and should reflect clear intention to collaborate.
CV.

Desired outcomes include:

research collaborations, publications, and presentations, in particular, those aimed at securing additional funding for continued activity;
undergraduate and graduate student connections, research and collaboration opportunities for students, and student mobility;
curriculum development or integration, connected classrooms or collaborative online international learning (COIL) experiences, or other curricular innovations.

Grant recipients are expected to include some promotional activity for the student exchange programs during their travel to the host institution. The respective coordinating offices in Oregon “IE3 Global” at Oregon State University and in Baden-Württemberg at “Oregon Study Center” at the University of Tübingen are best positioned to support the discussion of ideas for increasing student participation in the exchange program.

Review and Timeline:

Applications will be reviewed by a committee with representation from Baden-Württemberg and Oregon. Applicants will be notified of a decision latest by the end of December 2026.
