Schönbuch Forest Hike (Hiking Season Kick-Off)

This scenic hike takes us into the beautiful Schönbuch forest, a vast nature reserve known for its rich biodiversity.

We’ll start directly from the Botanical Garden and head deep into the Schönbuch forest - one of the most stunning natural areas around Tübingen. It is a relaxed, social hike, making it a perfect way to kick off the season. 

The route includes forest trails, gentle elevation, and multiple scenic rest points along the way. We’ll take several breaks at scenic spots (with shelters in case of rain). 

With a bit of luck, we might even spot deer or wild boars - binoculars are a nice bonus!

Hike Details:

  • Distance: ~12-14 km
  • Hiking time: 4 hours (excluding breaks)
  • Total duration: ~6-7 hours
  • After the hike: optional ice cream / coffee hangout

MEETING POINT / TIME:
9.30 a.m. at the Botanical Garden of the University of Tübingen https://maps.app.goo.gl/4KzeW1UQLgqvMN3j7
We will start the hike from there and expect to return to Tübingen around 6.30 p.m.

You can reach the meeting point with the bus line 5 (direction Waldhäuser Ost). The exit is at the bus stop “Botanischer Garten”. 
Please note the bus times for Sundays and public holidays.

IMPORTANT: 

  • Check the weather beforehand and be prepared for rain or cold. Wear good hiking shoes with strong grip. Bring at least 2 liters of water, lunch, and plenty of snacks. Don't forget your Student ID and/or DeutschlandTicket/Jugendticket for bus travel.
  • This tour is organized and conducted by one of our volunteers (Armin Vahdat). Therefore, the registration process and handling differs slightly from the organization by the Welcome Center. Please read the information below regarding payment, organization etc. carefully.

Registration

To secure your spot, kindly follow these steps:

  • Send €5 to Armin’s PayPal account (nicerobservatoryspam prevention@gmail.com) to confirm your participation. Add only your WhatsApp-enabled number and full name in the PayPal payment description (e.g., +49 1761234567 John Smith).
  • You may invite up to three guests (friends or family). In that case, please pay for them and include +1 in the PayPal description (e.g., +49 1761234567 John Smith +1).
  • Please note: There is no waiting list and cancellations by the registered participants are non-refundable. Participation is limited to 25 people on a first-come, first-served basis. If you register after the limit is reached, you will be automatically refunded.
  • The payment deadline is 11:59 p.m. on May 07, 2026. However, registration will close promptly once the 25-person limit is reached, with a notification posted on our Welcome Center Stammtisch WhatsApp group. On May 08, registered participants will be added to the hiking WhatsApp group and will get additional journey details.
