Graveler: A Game-Based E-Learning Tool

Graveler is an e-learning tool to integrate game-based e-learning into university teaching. It is open source and combines the functionality of a learning management system and conference software with a virtual reality multiplayer game. Graveler is used in the Global Awarneness Education seminars such as "What is Globalization?", "Global Challenges to Development: No Poverty", "CIVIS BIP Democratic Memories in Global Perspective" and "Global Migration on the Ground". In these courses, students are taken on a virtual world tour using Graveler where they discover and solve problems in different cities together with other students while learning more about globalization and cross-border processes. In 2024, Graveler will be further developed and expanded with the help of funding from the Stiftung Innovation in der Hochschullehre. The goal is to integrate game-based learning into university teaching and training of staff to promoting inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives, impart intercultural competence and problem-solving skills for the ecological and social challenges of our time.
