GRK 2381 fellow Dr. Daniel Stehle wins PhD award

We are happy and proud that one of our GRK 2381 junior scientists, Dr. Daniel Stehle, has received this year's PhD award from the University of Tübingen. His PhD thesis is entitled “cGMP Imaging Uncovers New Roles and Therapeutic Implications of NO/cGMP Signaling in the Kidney and in Melanoma”. The prize was awarded by Rector Professor Dr. Karla Pollmann and Dean Professor Dr. Thilo Stehle on July 15, 2023 during the central doctoral graduation ceremony.

We congratulate Daniel for his excellent work!

Daniel will now continue his academic career as postdoc at the University of San Diego (UCSD) in La Jolla, USA.
We wish him all the best and much success.

Congratulations to Johanna Rodriguez for her doctoral defense!

On July 10, 2023 Johanna Gabriela Rodriguez Cabezas (project 3) successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled "Understanding the role of NO-GC/cGMP in human, murine, and HIV-positive patient's platelets and the effect of biochemical confinement in platelet morphology and mechanics". Her project was supervised by Prof. Tilman Schäffer at the Institute of Applied Physics in Tübingen and by her co-mentor Assoc. Prof. Francesca Seta from the Boston University.

Congratulations, Dr. Rodriguez Cabezas!

Add-on Fellowship for Aylin Balmes from the Joachim Herz Foundation

The GRK 2381 congratulates Aylin Balmes on her successful application for an Add-on Fellowship for Interdisciplinary Life Science from the Joachim Herz Foundation.

The foundation supports young scientists who want to use interdisciplinary approaches to answer biological research questions while promoting “thinking outside the box” and networking.

The Add-on Fellows receive financial support over a period of two years for international networking and further training in a different subject – for example, biologists can immerse themselves in mathematics and modelers in life sciences. The individually and flexibly adapted funding enables research stays, conference visits, the purchase of aids such as laptops or software solutions and participation in fellowship meetings.

Congratulations to the first Dr. of the GRK 2381!

On July 22, 2022, only three years after the start of the GRK 2381, Philine Marchetta (project 9) successfully defended her doctoral thesis entitled "cGMP pathways as novel molecular targets in the brain for fast auditory processing and cognitive function". Her project was supervised by Prof. Marlies Knipper at the Hearing Research Center in Tübingen and by her co-mentor Prof. Michele Jacob from Tufts University, Boston. Philine is the first “Dr. rer. nat.” graduating in the GRK 2381 and we are happy and proud that she completed her doctoral thesis in such a short time and with such a high quality.

First visit of GRK 2381 doctoral researchers in Boston in November 2019

With support from the Reinhard Frank-Stiftung, four of our doctoral researchers (M. Barresi, A. Böttcher, T. Pham, M. Roeßing) and our training coordinator (Prof. R. Lukowski) were able to make a short-term trip to our partners in Boston in November 2019. This visit was extremely useful to get in touch with host PIs and their laboratories and to establish solid grounds for the future exchange of junior scientists. Our doctoral researchers also presented a poster of the GRK 2381 at the cGMP Forum in Boston and had the opportunity to network with pharma industry. For a full version of their report on their first academic Boston experience, see here.
