The University of Nottingham became a strategic partner of the University of Tübingen in 2023, formalised through the signing of a joint Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This partnership builds on a strong foundation of collaboration, beginning in 2017 with increased academic and senior management exchanges that laid the groundwork for a foundational MOU in 2020 and culminating in the strategic partnership agreement.
A significant achievement of this collaboration is the co-supervision of four PhD students—two financed by Tübingen and two by Nottingham—reflecting a deep commitment to joint research training. Additionally, two rounds of seedfunding initiatives, launched in 2021 and 2023, have been highly successful, resulting in third-party funding and fostering impactful research projects.
The partnership spans a wide range of disciplines, with particular strengths in quantum physics, precision imaging, biology, and social sciences. It also includes three joint Master’s programmes in the disciplines economics and geography, which provide students with access to the expertise and resources of both universities.
Programmes like Teach@Tübingen and other exchange opportunities further enhance the academic and cultural connections between the two institutions, creating a vibrant and collaborative environment for students and scholars alike.
