Completing the degree program

On this page you will find helpful information about the organizational processes at the end of your studies.

Registering for the bachelor’s or master’s thesis

The admission requirements for the bachelor’s and master’s thesis are specified in the respective exam regulations. There, they can be found in the provisions governing the bachelor’s and master’s thesis, and, if applicable, the final module.

The thesis topic will usually be discussed with the supervisor in the department. It is advisable to contact a supervisor in the department in good time before registering for the bachelor’s or master’s thesis and discuss the preparation for the thesis with them.

Information about the application proper as well as the registration forms for the bachelor’s and master’s thesis can be found on the examinations offices' web pages under the respective section: https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/120435

Re-enrollment/enrollment until study completion

Prerequisite for taking an exam is, among other things, enrollment at UT in the respective program. As long as the program has not yet been completed, respectively all its exams have been passed, students should remain enrolled to be able to still participate in a possible repeat exam. Once all grades have been determined or it is certain that the final examination has been passed, students may request their graduation certificate and terminate their enrollment, or, if applicable, transfer to another program if they want to pursue another degree. If so desired, it is also possible to remain enrolled until the last grade has been registered or until the end of the current semester.

Students who want to terminate their enrollment after having participated in the final exam and are uncertain whether they have passed it, should ask their examiners for written confirmation that they have completed it successfully; grading and requesting the certificate can occur at a later time.

Information concerning the refund of fees and contributions:

Tuition fees and a large part of other fees and student contributions can be refunded if enrollment is terminated within up to one month after the beginning of the lecture period and an appropriate application is submitted.

Requesting and obtaining graduation certificates

Once all examinations have been successfully completed, graduates of a degree program will receive their degree certificate with all further documentation. In bachelor’s and master’s programs, the certificate will usually be issued informally upon notification of/request to the responsible official in the examinations office.

Information about this can be found on the web pages of the Central Examinations Office as well as further examinations offices at the University of Tübingen at: https://uni-tuebingen.de/en/120435

Many degree programs will also include a graduation ceremony once per semester. Here, the degree certificates are officially handed over in a festive setting.
