Studium Oecologicum

The Studium Oecologicum is a teaching/learning program on sustainable development for students across all disciplines. It focusses on the global and complex challenges of our time, such as the climate and biodiversity crisis, social and North-South inequalities and resource scarcity. The courses represent a joint learning process between lecturers and participants, are open, discursive and participatory in form and method and are accompanied by experienced experts from science and practice. The Studium Oecologicum is designed at the Competence Center for Sustainable Development ("CCSD", at the IZEW) and is executed in close cooperation with the Department of Interdisciplinary Education and Professional Orientation as part of the Transdisciplinary Course Program.

Certificate Studium Oecologicum

Students who have attended several Studium Oecologicum courses can receive the "Studium Oecologicum" certificate. The following requirements are necessary to obtain the certificate:

  • At least one foundation course:
Foundational courses are identified in the Transdisciplinary Course Program (TCP) by course designations 1SOG....
  • At least two topics courses:
Topics courses are identified in the TCP program by course designations 1SOT... in the TCP program. After consultation with the coordination of the Studium Oecologiucm, additional selected "disciplinary courses" from the regular teaching activities of the faculties can be included in the certificate.
  • At least 12 credit points (CP):
3 to 6 CP are assigned to the courses in the Studium Oecologicum. At least 12 CP are required for the certificate.

The certificate certifies the acquisition of sound basic knowledge and interdisciplinary key competencies on issues of sustainable development and is issued by the University of Tübingen. The required certificates can be acquired over several semesters. In certain cases, credits on SD topics from other universities can also be recognized.

As soon as at least 12 CP have been completed, these can be sent by e-mail (transcript of records or certificates scanned legibly or photographed) to the Department of Interdisciplinary Education and Vocational Orientation. Please send the e-mail to: kursanmeldungspam prevention@tracs.uni-tuebingen.de

Important notes:

  1. The certificate is issued in German. If an English version is required, this must be stated when applying, as it is not possible to issue the certificate in both languages. It is therefore not possible to make a subsequent change.
  2. If more courses are taken than are required for the certificate, these can also be listed on the certificate. We therefore recommend that you only apply for the certificate at the end of your studies.
  3. Please do not use the student e-mail address for e-mail contact, as this can no longer be reached after exmatriculation.

After completion of the certificate, students will be informed by e-mail. As the certificate is signed by people from different departments, the process can take up to four weeks.
