National Award – Education for Sustainable Development (2026)

On July 20, the German Commission for UNESCO, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth (BMBFSFJ), honored the Competence Center for Sustainable Development for its outstanding commitment to Education for Sustainable Development (BNE).

About the Award

The “National Award for Education for Sustainable Development” honors organizations, networks, and municipalities that are committed to shaping our society in a way that is livable and sustainable as part of UNESCO’s ESD 2030 program. Sustainable development means ensuring human dignity and equal opportunities for all within an intact environment. Education plays a key role in this. It empowers people to make informed decisions and to better understand and assess the impact of their actions on future generations and other regions of the world.

Teaching award for the Stud-Oec course “Aufbäumen für die Zukunft” (2023)

Lecturers Nils Aguilar and Paul Hofman were awarded the “Higher Education for a Sustainable Future” teaching prize for their interdisciplinary course on agriculture and agroforestry systems from the Studium Oecologicum curriculum. The ESD teaching prize is awarded annually by the Heidelberg “Center for Education for Sustainable Development”

Teaching Award "Higher Education for Sustainable Development" (1st place) for "Fair Chocolate on Air"

Teaching Award "Higher Education for Sustainable Development": 1st place for the course "Fair Chocolate on Air" („Faire Schokolade on air“) from the Oecologicum program at the University of Tübingen.In November 2022, the course was honored with the Teaching Award "Higher Education for Sustainable Development." The award, endowed with 3000 euros, recognizes successful formats for Education for Sustainable Development at universities in Baden-Württemberg, as acknowledged by the Heidelberg "Center for Education for Sustainable Development".
