Joint project Culture of Sustainability at Universities
As part of the BMBF's funding guideline "Transformation Paths for Sustainable Universities", the joint project KuNaH (Universities in Society - Real-world Experiments of Transformative Learning and Research for a Culture of Sustainability) was launched in October 2022. It deals with the question of what a culture of sustainability at universities might look like and how it can be promoted.

Second Award of the World Action Program
The university as a place of learning has been awarded for the World Action Program on Education for Sustainable Development 2019/2020.

Award for the Project N
For the first time, the CCSD receives the Sustainability Project 2017 Award for outstanding commitment and creative and forward-looking ideas for sustainable development.

Tübingen as a Hoch-N partner university
HOCH-N is a BMBF project carried out jointly by a network of 11 universities. It takes place in the context of the World Action Program on Education for Sustainable Development and in relation to the National Action Plan of the federal government. Since 2016, the University of Tübingen has been part of this network.

Establishment of the Innovation Fund
In the years 2013 to 2025, the fund supported a total of 58 projects and measures that addressed issues of sustainable development in teaching, research and operations at the University of Tübingen.

Establishment of the CCSD
The Competence Center for Sustainable Development (“CCSD”) acts as an interface to promote and network commitment to SD in the university’s various fields of activity. From the outset, the main objective of the Competence Center for Sustainable development has been to address SD in a whole-institution approach.

Establishment of PF 3
The Platform for Environmental Systems ("Environmental Platform") connects the research groups working on environmental issues at the University of Tübingen as part of the university's Excellence Strategy.

EMAS Certification
The university has been EMAS-certified since 2011. Since then, revalidations have taken place every three years.

First call for submissions for the Sustainability Award for Theses
The Sustainability Award acknowledges outstanding Bachelor's and Master's theses, and since 2024 dissertation theses, on the topic of sustainable development. The award is granted annually by the University of Tübingen.

First Sustainability Lecture
The Sustainability Lecture takes place every November since 2011. It is dedicated to current topics of sustainability, represented by renowned speakers.

Establishment of the Advisory Council for Sustainable Development
The Advisory Board for Sustainable Development "shall formulate recommendations to the Rectorate for a comprehensive sustainability strategy for the University of Tübingen and thus contribute to the development of a strategy for sustainable development in teaching, research and administration and to initiate its implementation".

The Studium Oecologicum is a programme of courses on sustainable development for students of all disciplines.

First measures for Sustainable Development (SD) at the University of Tübingen
Predominantly through student initiatives, the first concepts for SD at the university were developed and preparations for the EMAS certification were made.
