In the summer semester of 2024, more than 40 students from Germany, Brazil and Kenya worked together as part of the Global Awareness course "Global Challenges to Development: No Poverty!”, led by Glaucia Peres da Silva (TRACS University of Tübingen), to discuss the challenges of poverty and explore alternative development options.
The group that focussed on Goal 1.5 of the SDGs - strengthening resilience to environmental, economic and social disasters - put in an outstanding performance.
Giovanna Balestra dos Santos, a student at the State University of Maringá in Brazil, produced a moving video that addresses the devastating effects of the floods in Petrópolis. The impressive visualisation makes it clear how closely poverty is linked to the consequences of natural disasters. The work was accompanied by international experts and emphasises the need to find sustainable solutions to combat poverty.
