Based on an experience-oriented learning approach, Graveler - an e-learning tool for integrating game-based learning into university teaching - was developed at the University of Tübingen. This tool is now to be rolled out and made available for a wide range of application areas. To this end, a training concept is to be developed that supports teachers and multipliers in developing and testing didactic scenarios in their own context and that introduces them to the technical requirements and peculiarities of game-based learning.
The tool, which was developed and piloted in the context of Global Awareness Education, can contribute in particular to promoting inter- and transdisciplinary perspectives among students and to imparting intercultural competence and problem-solving skills for the ecological and social challenges of our time.
Graveler is open source and combines the functionality of a learning management system and conference software with a virtual reality multiplayer game. The serious game is currently being used in the seminars "What is Globalization?", "Global Challenges to Development: No Poverty", "CIVIS BIP Democratic Memories in Global Perspective" and "Global Migration on the Ground", among others.
