How do I request a sabbatical?

Since September 2017, salaried employees and civil servants can request a year (or half a year) of sabbatical leave. You can download the corresponding administrative regulation (Verwaltungsvorschrift)  here (in German only). Any such requests should be addressed informally to human resources; it is recommended that you consult with your supervisor before submitting a request.


Exception: If retirement is to follow immediately after the sabbatical, sabbatical periods of between 6 and 12 months are possible.
