Universities share a special responsibility for shaping transformation processes. In addition to the essential tasks of research and teaching, the so-called 'third mission' - the transfer with practice - plays an increasingly important role. The transfer field of action is characterized by a dialogical, partnership-based exchange between universities and actors from business, politics and civil society to jointly build knowledge and work on concrete strategies for action. In the field of sustainability in particular, there is considerable potential to align research and teaching more closely with societal issues, and to seek solutions to definitive sustainability problems through a dialog between science and society. This way, the university not only exerts a positive influence on society but also receives important impulses from social actors.
