An important task of UNESCO World Heritage Sites is their exemplary function with regard to sustainable development. The focus of this practice-oriented project is the discussion of how target dimensions of sustainable development within the framework of the Agenda 2030/SDGs can be implemented and evaluated at UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The project takes place in cooperation with the state office for cultural heritage conversation Baden-Württemberg  and focuses on the “Caves and the Ice Age Art of the Swabian Alb“, which have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2017. Within the framework of the project an analysis of current sustainability activities and a feasibility study will be carried out in close cooperation with local stakeholders. Furthermore, proposals for anchoring sustainable development in the management plan and for monitoring will be developed.
