CRCS Mission Statement

Mission Statement

The CRCS aims to bring together scholars who explore the role of religion in social, cultural and public life, in all historical periods, and around the world. With its focus on religious practice, religious communities, religious imagery, and religious identities, as well as their significance in daily life, in political and legal debates, in historical developments, in social movements, and in textual as well as other cultural forms, the Center seeks to promote intellectual exchange between the humanities, social sciences, and theologies on the topic of religion. Religion is defined broadly, with and without institutional structures, and including secularity and atheism. The CRCS provides an open environment for discussion and networking across disciplines in order to encourage new initiatives in research collaboration and public outreach.
