Title: Were the Tropical Rain Forests a limitation for the expansion of Homo sapiens in America?

Abstract: Since the 1980s, there has been a discussion about the potentiality of Tropical Rain Forests for sustaining hunter-gatherers without the contribution of some crops. If this were the case, these environments would have been converted into a barrier for the expansion of Homo sapiens in South America. In this presentation, I will summarize how contemporary hunter-gatherers manage the Amazonian Forest, and I will also discuss the Late Pleistocene archaeological evidence in the region. I will integrate these two sources of information in order to test the putative limitations of the Tropical Rain Forest in the peopling of South America.
