Science Communication on Instagram

The research project aims to explore the possibilities and potential of social media communication for the humanities. The focus is on the development of an Instagram channel for the CRC. Due to the dominance of the aesthetic on this platform, the social network Instagram seems to be particularly suitable for communicating the questions of the CRC. The question is how attention can be drawn to humanities research in the regime of the social medium and how complex research concerns and project results can be translated, recontextualized and thus made accessible to the Instagram community in a vivid way. Empirical qualitative and quantitative research will be conducted to investigate the potential impact of such an approach to science communication in the humanities, and to explore how aesthetic experiences in social media can be used as an element of science communication. The project thus combines aesthetic, rhetorical and science communication issues.
