NFDI - German National Research Data Infrastructure

In late 2018, the Joint Science Conference decided to establish and fund a National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). Since then, the federal and state governments have provided up to EUR 90 million annually for this purpose by funding a total of 26 consortia from various disciplines in three funding rounds.

The aim of the national research data infrastructure (NFDI) is to systematically manage scientific and research data, provide long-term data storage, backup and accessibility, and network the data both nationally and internationally.

DFG - German Research Foundation

The NFDI consortia provide discipline-specific infrastructure to enable the best possible research data management (RDM) in the respective disciplines. This involves developing demand-oriented offers for the scientific communities. At the same time, central interdisciplinary issues relating to research data are to be considered and resolved. The aim is to establish a national information infrastructure for research data management.

The website of the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) e.V. provides an overview of all 26 consortia.

Researchers at the University of Tübingen have been involved in eight NFDI consortia since application process, which are listed below. In addition, collaboration has recently started with NFDI4BIOIMAGE and KonsortSWD.

The consortia provide advice on issues relating to RDM in their respective disciplines, offer services for the scientific community and can thus support researchers with enquiries and issues relating to data management.

For advice, please contact the respective NFDI consortia suitable for your research discipline
