As an association of the Freunde der Universität Tübingen e.V., Universitätsbund Tübingen e.V. serves as the University of Tübingen's own funding association. The non-profit H.W. & J. Hector Foundation and the Hector Foundation II mainly support medical research in the field of AIDS and cancer research. The Hector Science Award recognizes outstanding achievements in research, teaching and the promotion of junior researchers in the fields of natural and engineering sciences, mathematics, computer science, psychology and medicine. The non-profit Vector Foundation finances scientific and technical research projects in Baden-Württemberg on the topics of climate protection in transportation and STEM innovations. Another focus is on STEM education, with projects for schoolchildren, students for master of education and teaching staff.
The Volkswagen Foundation supports innovative research projects in promising areas. It pays particular attention to young researchers and to collaboration between researchers across scientific, cultural and national boundaries.
