At the University of Tübingen, the overall appointment procedure can take up to 12 months. The process involves a departmental search committee, the Faculty Council, the President’s Office, the University Senate Subcommittee on Structural Planning, the University Senate as a whole, as well as the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts (MWK) of the federal state of Baden-Württemberg. The time span from the publication of a job offer to the actual offer of a professorship to the first-ranked candidate can take anywhere from four to seven months. It can take another four months from the initial offer to final acceptance of a professorship,
The appointment process consists of the following steps:
Obtaining approval from the Ministry of Science, Research, and Arts (MWK) on the basis of the job description for W3 and tenure track professorships
Creation of ranked hiring list (usually around three names) by the hiring committee
Approval of the ranked hiring list within the university bodies (Faculty, President´s Office, Senate)
Obtaining approval from the Ministry of Science, Research, and Arts (MWK) to the ranked hiring list for W3 and tenure track professorships
Offer of the professorship to the first-ranked candidate
