Requirements and application
The course of study is aimed at
- Students of pharmacy with completed studies and the desire for scientific deepening or specialization. (Application before the 2nd state examination is possible if it is expected to be successfully completed by the start of the master's program).
- for students / graduates of a relevant B.Sc. program with biomedical/scientific content (e.g. chemistry, biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, molecular medicine). Admission requirement is that the B.Sc. has been successfully completed by the start of the Master's program.
- International students / graduates of pharmacy or a biomedical/scientific subject with at least three years of standard period of study
The study program is admission-restricted. The study places are awarded according to the university's own selection procedure. In addition to the bachelor's grade, other criteria are taken into account in the formation of the ranking list (see selection statutes). 30 students are admitted per academic year.
Prerequisite for the study in the Master's program is a university degree in pharmacy (Bachelor of Pharmacy or completed Second Section of the Pharmaceutical Examination) or with an equivalent subject orientation or an equivalent degree with at least the grade 2.5.
The language of study and examination is German and English. Formal proof of English proficiency is not required.
International applicants *without* a German-language university entrance qualification must provide evidence of German language proficiency in accordance with the university's matriculation regulations (see also information on proof of linguistic study ability / DSH language test).
This is a so-called "mono-master", i.e. the study is in one scientific subject.
Program details
The development, manufacture and application of pharmaceuticals is an economic field that is subject to increasing interdisciplinarity. In addition, the requirements in the individual subjects are constantly increasing due to the increase in knowledge. Through the in-depth training in the core pharmaceutical subjects you have selected, you will possess extensive, specialized technical knowledge. For example, you will have expertise in the field of drug discovery, based on modern chemical methods, but also usefully supplemented by knowledge of, for example, molecular design or bioanalytics. Modern target identification will be part of the method spectrum as well as knowledge of biopharmaceutical core processes or regulatory requirements. In-depth knowledge of drug form development and production will also enable you to much better meet the requirements for career entry in these areas. Due to the flexible course design, a high level of interdisciplinarity is also achieved within pharmacy.
By choosing modules from subjects outside pharmacy, such as computer science (for production), molecular biology (for drug development), or psychology (for marketing or patient application), great added value can be acquired for employment in the appropriate positions in the pharmaceutical industry.
In addition to the basic modules Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Biology, Pharmaceutical Technology and Pharmacology, Toxocology and Clinical Pharmacy in the 1st year, you can choose in-depth modules in the 2nd year (e.g. Drug Discovery and Development, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics, Analytical Technologies or Pharmacy in Global Health). In the 4th semester you will complete your master thesis. Further information can be found on the website of the Master programm Pharmaceutical Sciences and Technologies.
