Student ID / chip card

Every student at the University of Tübingen receives a personal student ID in the form of a chip card from the Registrar's Office after enrolment.
This student ID card currently fulfills the following functions:

Function as a student ID card, e.g. for ticket inspections. You can renew or update the semester imprint yourself at the self-service terminals.

  • Access control with key function in various buildings.
  • Payment function - rechargeable - at public charging stations in the campus area - for cashless payment in the canteen and at the photocopiers
  • QR code : The functions of the QR code are currently still being developed. If the code is read, the value “non-student or unrecorded student” is incorrectly displayed. As soon as the QR code can be used correctly, we will inform you on this website.
  • Viewing the card data at the self-service terminals

Loss of the student ID card

This chip card is the property of the University of Tübingen. If it is lost or damaged due to careless behavior, we will have to charge you the corresponding fees (currently € 15). In the event of card defects due to technical malfunctions (e.g. the semester imprint is no longer visible), you will of course receive a replacement free of charge on presentation of the defective card.

In the event of theft or loss, the Registrar's Office can block your student ID card. To do this, please send us the signed application for a replacement card and transfer the €15 to the account of the Universitätskasse Baden-Württembergische Bank AG, IBAN: DE29 6005 0101 7477 5036 21. Please state only your student number as the reason for payment. Once your card has been blocked by the Registrar's Office, the Studierendenwerk will also be automatically informed overnight to block the payment function and the University Library to block the loan function, and the card will be blocked for access to the building.

You can obtain the application form required for a replacement card here.

You can send old, defective ID cards together with this application form here or drop them in your letterbox. A new passport photo is not required for the creation of a replacement ID card, but can be used on request. It takes about a week to create a replacement ID card. The new ID card will then be sent to you by post.

If you find student ID cards in the university area, please send them to the Registrar's Office by internal mail or drop them in the internal mailbox in Wilhelmstraße 19. The Registrar's Office will then send the student ID cards to the students after checking them.

Note: The new ID cards have a matt white strip at the bottom of the front for the semester imprint. The chip required for the function is not visible to you under the plastic layer.

You can update the semester imprint on your student ID card (chip card) at the self-service terminals once you have re-registered.

The self-service terminals can be found at the following locations: University Library Wilhelmstraße 32 ground floor (accessible during building opening hours) and in the Morgenstelle Lecture Hall Center (accessible during building opening hours).

Access function

Building access with the chip card is activated either automatically or by the respective building representative. If errors occur in the access function in just one individual building, please contact the respective supervisor of this area first. In the ZDV (Zentrum für Datenverarbeitung), the university's central computer center, this would be the user secretariat at Wächterstraße 76, for example. Do not allow anyone else to pass through appropriately secured doors with your ID card - even if this person has a valid ID card! In the event of misuse, your access will be blocked!

Malfunctions at the self-service terminals

In the event of faults at the self-service terminals in the University Library, please contact the staff at the information desk on the second floor. In case of malfunctions at the self-service terminals in the Morgenstelle Lecture Hall Center, please contact the janitors or the staff of the building management there.

Error messages at the terminals

Delete card

The message “Delete card” is displayed if the card was removed too quickly from a reader and the booking could not be completed. This then causes the card to be blocked.

Remedy 1: Go to the device where the payment was apparently the last to work. Insert the card there and wait briefly. This will then be corrected automatically.

If the device can no longer be found:

Remedy 2: Go to the info point of the Studierendenwerk www.my-stuwe.de/mensa/infopoints/ and have the card read out. The staff there can see where the blockage occurred and can tell you the exact location or, if necessary, unblock the wallet.

The card should then work again without any restrictions.
